Summary:
California Education Code 51225.31 identified that students with significant cognitive disabilities who were eligible to take the California Alternate Assessment in grade 11 are eligible to earn a high school diploma after completing the state required credits for graduation. For this specific group of students, this diploma does not end the student's entitlement to a free and appropriate public education.

The courses of study were developed to align to the Common Core State Standards and California Core Content Connectors for students with disabilities.

The courses are being piloted in the 23/24 school year to comply with the regulations specified previously.
