Staff requests ratification of the submission of a three year grant to Andeavor Foundation to provide continued funding for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Robotics Clubs at all nine middle schools in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD) during the 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021 school years. The Robotics Club was launched in 2014-15 in collaboration with Tesoro. The STEM Robotics Grant will be for approximately $405,000. In addition, staff requests ratification approval to submit a grant to support summer STEM camps; specifically a girls' camp summit for 60 girls; a Riverview camp for 20 girls; and a STEM camp for 20 boys ($35,000). Additionally, staff requests ratification approval to submit a grant for the STEM and Ed-Tech Symposium, a professional development day for staff ($25,000). Grant funding would support: materials, staffing, planning/collaboration time, food, professional development and other related conference expenses. If funded, the grant will provide $405,000 over three years, and $60,000 for this one year.
