Summary: Staff requests approval to submit an application for the After School Education and Safety (ASES) Kids Code Grant Pilot Program (Kids Code Program) through the Expanded Learning Division (EXLD) of the California Department of Education (CDE) in order to expand access to coding for students participating in the CARES After School Program. This is a one-time grant for $775,000 that will be used over the three-year grant period (2019-2021) at the eleven elementary sites and three middle school sites that have CARES After School Programs. Funding can be used on coding staff (certificated and classified), professional development, program materials and equipment, field trips, and guest speakers only. The purpose of this grant is to expand access to coding to students participating in existing ASES programs.
