Summary:
|
Six Mt. Diablo Unified schools have been identified by the Federal government as being in need of Comprehensive Support and Improvement and one school has been identified needing Targeted Support and Improvement. These school include Horizons School: Independent Study, Olympic Continuation High School, Bel Air Elementary, Shore Acres Elementary, Sunrise Elementary (Special Education), El Dorado Middle, and Oak Grove Middle. Pleasant Hill Middle School has been identified for Targeted Support and Improvement. From this list, the federal government creates their list of the lowest 5% schools in each state. The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires state educational agencies to determine school eligibility for comprehensive support and improvement (CSI). Local educational agencies (LEAs) with schools that meet the criteria for CSI must partner with stakeholders to locally develop and implement a plan to improve student outcomes. The county office of education (COE) also plays a role in providing technical assistance and support to LEAs within its county that serve schools that meet the criteria for CSI. Schools in CSI receive $1,976.04 funding (per pupil unduplicated) to help the support plan. School Eligibility Criteria: California will use the California School Dashboard (Dashboard) to determine school eligibility for CSI. School eligibility is based on the following two categories of schools: 1. High schools with a graduation rate less than 67 percent averaged over two years o All high schools, including Title I, non-Title I, traditional, and Dashboard Alternative School Status are eligible. 2. Not less than the lowest-performing five percent of Title I schools o Schools with all red indicators o Schools with all red but one indicator of another color o Schools with five or more indicators where the majority are red o Schools with all red and orange indicators Targeted/Additional Targeted Support & Improvement: The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires state educational agencies to determine school eligibility for targeted support and improvement (TSI) and additional targeted support and improvement (ATSI). Schools that meet the criteria for TSI or ATSI must partner with stakeholders to develop and implement a school-level plan to improve student outcomes. Schools in TSI do not receive funding to help the support plan. Staff will present information on the criterion, the challenges, and the improvement plans.
