Summary:
Mt. Diablo Adult Education (MDAE) requests approval to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Tandem, as required by First 5 Contra Costa for renewal of MDAE’s annual contract renewal with First 5 Contra Costa for the period of July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2020 to receive funding in the amount of $109,262.00 to support the continuation of MDAE’s ESL Family Literacy First 5 Contra Costa School-Readiness Programs at Meadow Homes Elementary, Cambridge Elementary, and at the Loma Vista Adult Center.

MDAE’s MOU with Tandem allows five School-Readiness classes to participate in a book-lending program (“StoryCycles”) with age and culturally-appropriate books for children and parents to read together at home. Tandem also provides training for staff and adult students (parents and family members of the children in the School-Readiness classes) on interactive adult-child reading and learning activities.

Funding:
First 5 Contra Costa School-Readiness Grant funds.
Fiscal Impact:
Costs for the book-lending program (“StoryCycles”) will be paid from the First 5 Contra Costa School-Readiness Grant funds of $109,262.00 to be received by MDAE for its annual First 5 contract for school readiness programs (refer to First 5 Contra Costa School-Readiness Grant Contract also on the 6/24/19 Board agenda for review and approval).
