Summary:
|
This interim change order addresses a significant scope of abatement work encountered during ongoing construction activities. The work includes both unforeseen abatement conditions discovered after demolition and opening of concealed spaces, and abatement needs that were present and should have been identified during preconstruction environmental testing, but were not. The abatement involves removal and remediation of hazardous materials, including but not limited to asbestos-containing materials (ACM) , in accordance with all applicable regulations and safety protocols. Background: Initial environmental assessments did not fully capture the extent of abatement required. During active construction, additional hazardous materials were uncovered that were either previously inaccessible or missed in initial testing. The construction team immediately halted work in affected areas to address health and safety concerns and conducted further testing to delineate the scope before work progressed. Justification: While part of this scope could not have been reasonably identified, some materials should have been captured with more thorough preconstruction testing. In both instances, the work was not identified to the contractor, therefore they were not able to include this scope of work in their original contract proposal. This change order ensures regulatory compliance and maintains the construction timeline by addressing these issues promptly.
