Summary:
|
Horizons is proposing that Gateway Continuation High School be converted into an independent study campus within Horizons School. Gateway would be open to students in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, particularly for Bay Point and Pittsburg students who live within the district boundaries. Independent Study is part of a multi-faceted approach, which includes individual meetings, small classes, online courses, opportunities to take classes at the comprehensive high school and community college, and participate in sports teams in our district. Current administrators at both sites would share the administration for Gateway and other programs within Horizons School.
Horizons School was developed more than 20 years ago to meet the needs of students in grades K-12, who are highly motivated to complete their studies in an alternative setting. Working closely with a teacher at the high school level, Horizons students are able to discuss and tailor their education to include their areas of interest. Horizons School has been WASC Accredited for many years and Gateway would be included in this accreditation. We are also UC/CSU A-G and NCIS approved.
