Summary:

Mt. Diablo Adult Education (MDAE) requests approval to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Opportunity Junction and Ombudsman Services of Contra Costa and Solano for a Health Career Pathway. This Health Career Pathway creates a regional response to significant allied health professional staffing and quality improvement needs for those delivering care to Contra Costa County residents most at-risk for poor health. The terms of this MOU is to be effective from June 25, 2019 through December 31, 2019. This MDAE pilot program is a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program to train low-income individuals for careers in medical assisting, nursing and other medical professions and has been approved by the Council on Occupational Education (COE), the national accrediting body of MDAE’s Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) programs. A first cohort of 16 students has just recently graduated. Fifteen students have passed the two portions of the state certification exam, and one student is ready to complete the second portion of the certification exam. A majority of the students have already been hired as CNAs and several others are in process of applying for MDAE’s Medical Assistant and Surgical Technologist programs. This MOU will allow for student fee subsidy funds anticipated to be up to $30,000.00, to be paid to MDAE by Opportunity Junction, from John Muir Community Health grant funds and skilled nursing facility contribution funds provided to Opportunity Junction. |
